Hi Merlin.
I have no experience at all with this kind of tree athough it is hardy in South Europe .
I just read some information about it. It thrives also in places in southern Greece (photo) with little rain during the winter/spring months and no rain at all during summer...

Your tree, in any case, it's a challenge for us to start developing indigenous plants as bonsai!!

* cotinus coggygria. Κότινος κογγύγριος, ρούς, χρυσόξυλο.
Ο κότινος είναι ένας από τους πιο όμορφους φυλλοβόλους θάμνους μεγάλης ανάπτυξης αφού μπορεί να φτάσει και τα 3 μέτρα. Μπορεί να διαμορφωθεί και σε δένδρα. Αλλιώς λέγεται και χρυσόξυλο. Δυστυχώς όμως δεν είναι δημοφιλές φυτό στους ελληνικούς κήπους. Χαρακτηριστικό του είναι το φύλλωμά του το οποίο είναι πράσινο από την άνοιξη εως και τις αρχές φθινοπώρου και μετά γίνεται βαθύ μωβ. Επίσης έχει ιδιαίτερα λουλούδια που μοιάζουν με καπνό και για αυτό λέγεται και smoke tree. Χρειάζεται ηλιόλουστα σημεία και έχει ελάχιστες απαιτήσεις σε νερό.

Then came the disaster.

After the winter of 2011, the entire crown has dried up.

The tree was casting out only at the bottom.

I removed the upper part.

Dann kam die Katastrophe.

Nach dem Winter 2011 ist die komplette Krone vertrocknet.

Der Baum trieb nur noch im unteren Bereich aus.

Ich entfernte den oberen Teil.

Ich war sehr traurig, aber das ist nun mal die Natur

Hi ....

would you like to show the development of my wig bush.
The tree I bought the spring of 2007 in a tree school.
The tree stood in the far corner and he much to me already by its colors of the leaves and bark of the great in the summer of 2006.
Then when I looked back there in the spring over, he stood
still hidden in the corner and as I pondered much longer.
Very quickly he was in my car.

I put the tree in a plastic pot and cut him a just a little.
The Nebari was very good .... thumb thickness Star shaped Nebari, but first disappeared into the earth.

The straight upper branch part, I do not need in my idea of the design, but I read first drann around the tree not too much to weaken after the dig.


Hallo Zusammen....

wollte Euch mal die Entwicklung meines Perückenstrauches zeigen.
Den Baum kaufte ich Frühjahr 2007 in einer Baum schule.
Der Baum stand in der hintersten Ecke und er viel mir im Sommer 2006 schon durch seine Farbenpracht der Blätter und der tollen Rinde auf.
Als ich dann im Frühjahr wieder dort vorbei geschaut habe, stand er
immer noch verborgen in der Ecke und da überlegte ich nicht mehr lange.
Sehr schnell war er in meinem Auto.

Ich setzte den Baum in einen Plastik Pott und kürzte Ihn nur ein wenig ein.
Das Nebari war sehr gut....Daumendicke Sternförmiges Nebari, was aber erstmal in der Erde verschwand.

Der gerade obere Astteil, den ich in meiner Idee der Gestaltung nicht benötigte, lies ich aber erstmal drann um den Baum nicht zu viel zu schwächen nach dem ausgraben.

Dann war das absägen des Hauptstammes an der Reihe.....dies war im Herbst 2007

Danach erstellte ich mir ein Virtual, wie ich den Baum eventuell
gestalten könnte.

April 2008 I sat now on the tiller and
removed the dead or rotten wood.

I shortened the upper part of something else and worked a
Shari a .....


April 2008 setzte ich nun die Fräse an und
entfernte das tote bzw. faule Holz.

ich kürzte den oberen Teil noch etwas ein und arbeitete einen
Shari ein.....

now all a bit flamed and brushed ....

and this is the current state of the tree ....

'm Already looking forward to the shoot .... the buds are already
shortly before sprouting .... * happy *

nun das ganze noch etwas abgeflammt und gebürstet....

und das ist der momentane Stand des Baumes....

Freue mich jetzt schon auf den Austrieb....die Knospen sind schon
kurz vor dem Austrieb....*freu*

Two months have passed ..... the crown has reached new heights .. (Did vigorously BioGold hook) .. and
the crown ranges now down to the Shari edge. So slowly that is what .... right?


and as is well known, by the water-repellent surface of the leaves, the water beads are the most beautiful, the beautiful rolling of the leaves ....

2 Monate sind vergangen.....die Krone hat mächtig zugelegt..(Habe kräftig BioGold aufgelegt)..und
die Krone reicht jetzt auch nach unten bis zur Shari kante. So langsam wird das was....oder?


und wie bekannt, durch die Wasserabweisende Oberfläche der Blätter,sind am schönsten die Wasserperlen die von den Blättern schön abrollen....
